Sea Piece
beyond the breakers
my father and I caught and
rode onto the beach
my mother floated
held in cool water breathing
under the bright sun
that through her eyelids
gently lit the world drawn close
rocking her to rest
opacities of
shadows, betrayals, losses
and alien shores
were luminous in
the deep, wide blue of the sky
holding the mountains
rising jagged and
glorious around the bowl
of her valley home
