painting by Marlene Vine (marlenevine.com), poem by Roy Herndon Smith (previously published in Meat for Tea, Spring, 2018)
“What’s the matter now?”
sleepy Filagree mutters.
Big Bang, dreaming, moans,
“Be da bee body
buzzing ally ally lost
betwixt the betweens.”
Filagree wakes wide
up, “Oh freedom, gotta be
as little children,
hopscotch void to void,
through the shadows, through the light,
falling out of line.
Oh freedom, gotta
get back up, be da bee, buzz
betwixt the betweens.”
I love it, Roy …”buzz betwixt the betweens”
