painting by Marlene Vine (marlenevine.com), poem by Roy Herndon Smith
Together, we lie
down in green pastures; we rest
beside still waters;
we find our ways through
the valley of shadows of
suffering and death.
Fear floods over us;
we fight each other, we flee;
evil afflicts us.
We prepare a feast
for each other, we anoint
each others’ bodies.
We weep and we laugh;
our cups overflow; we dwell
for all of our lives
in the homes and hells,
the fields of flowers and blood,
we make together.
Dear Roy,
Thank you and Marlene once again. In Marlene’s painting I see a center and then everything surrounding it.
Your psalm I find touching and awakening, offering us the invitation for remembering who we sometimes are and who we can be.
