masses: unknowing

painting by marlene vine (marlenevine.com), poem by roy herndon smith

unknowing

standing in the rain
looking through a glass darkly
the screen of knowing

separating me
from the cloud of unkowing
the ephemeral

weather i was in
but not of, i could not rest
where i could not weep

where we, face to face,
could not unknow each other
melting into rain
