the way of all flesh 14

     roy herndon smith

the purple and black
umbrellas, the orange truck
the green leaves and lawns

demarcated forms
of saturated colorĀ
burning in the rain

like lives bounded by
birth, death, and other bodies
of radiant flesh

another one lost
last night separated from
family and friends

leaving a hard-edged
memory like a leaf that
falls on a grey day
