          fish don't exist—Lulu Miller

a fish doesn't exist
outside of brown leaves drifting
over the pavement

beyond the glass
swimming into words schooling on this page
seas breathing

atmospheres in and out
and bodies of water and earth
light and air

streaming from waves
out over the earth, falling into
shadows of green

leaves on trees rippling in light
playing children's voices
lapping stillness

a wiggle, a shimmer
a glance of lithe life curving
into the deep
